The Complete Ranking of 50 Top Pizza World 2022
For the first time ever in 50 TOP history, the ranking for the best 100 pizzerias in the world, 50 Top Pizza World, was presented in the splendid, prestigious setting of Palazzo Reale in Naples.
Francesco Martucci’s I Masanielli in Caserta, and Anthony Mangieri’s Una Pizza Napoletana in New York, landed in a dead heat tie for first place as the best pizzeria in the world. Third place went to Giuseppe Cutraro’s Peppe Pizzeria in Paris.
50 Kalò and 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples captured fourth and fifth place, sixth went to I Tigli in San Bonifacio, seventh to the Francesco & Salvatore Salvo pizzeria in Naples, eighth to Seu Pizza illuminati in Rome, ninth to La Notizia 94 in Naples, and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco closed out the top ten.
Forty Italian pizzerias, twenty-five in Europe, fifteen in the United States of America, fifteen in the Asia-Pacific area, four in South America and one in Africa make up the 2022 classification; thereby representing all of the continents.
50 Top Pizza World 2022, the ranking of the best pizzerias in the world, was designed by 50 Top Pizza, an online guide created and curated by Barbara Guerra, Albert Sapere and by the journalist Luciano Pignataro. The guide selects the best pizzerias in Italy and around the world. This first edition of the worldwide ranking was full of excitement and great satisfaction for all of the participating pizza makers and for the three curators: “This classification – they say – was made possible thanks to the annual work of our inspectors who collaborate with this project. They have examined and assessed an enormous number of pizzerias all over the world. As per the policy of our guide, this was always executed under absolute anonymity.
This was an extremely important challenge – continue the curators. – After presenting the guides for Europe, the USA, Italy, Asia-Pacific, the selection from South America and from Africa, we invited the top establishments from each ranking to Naples for the final worldwide classification for 2022.
This guide encompasses many different styles of pizza, even if, obviously, the Neapolitan style, both classic and contemporary, is the most popular. The most important cities for pizzas in terms of quality are: Naples above all, then New York, Tokyo and São Paulo. We are immensely satisfied because this journey around the world to capture the current pizza panorama was particularly rewarding.”
Federico Quaranta conducted the noteworthy awards ceremony, which was broadcast by Rai Uno with the support of Vittoria Dell’Anna, the panel head for the Asia-Pacific area. Great excitement also surrounded the presentation of the Special Awards which showcased the pizza makers and pizzerias that distinguished themselves in 2022.
• Giuseppe Cutraro, from Peppe Pizzeria in Paris was named Pizza Maker of the Year – Ferrarelle Award;
• Ciro Salvo from 50 Kalò, in Naples and London was awarded Performance of the Year – Goeldin Award, for being the only owner with two establishments in the ranking;
• Tony Gemignani, from Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, won Source of Inspiration – Latteria Sorrentina Award;
• Simone Padoan’s I Tigli, in San Bonifacio, was awarde the Consistent Quality – Robo Award;
• Fratelli Figurato in Madrid took home the Made in Italy – Pastificio Di Martino Award;
• 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar in Melbourne was awarded Best Wine Advocate – Prosecco DOC Award;
• The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo took home the Best Customer Welcome 2022 – Solania Award;
• Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona received the Best Format 2022 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award;
• Ti Amo in Buenos Aires was recognized with the One to Watch – Mammafiore Award;
• What the Crust in Cairo was awarded the Pioneer in Field Award 2022.
