The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo has been named the best pizzeria for 2023 in the Asia-Pacific area
In second place is Bottega in Beijing. On the third step of the podium is Pizzeria Peppe – Napoli sta’ ca” in Tokyo.
The Pizza Maker of the Year is Salvatore Fiata, from the Fiata by Salvatore Fiata pizzeria in Hong Kong. The Pizza of the Year award has been captured by Crosta Pizzeria in the Philippines. 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar has taken home the Made in Italy Award.
The Pizza Bar on 38th has been named the best pizzeria in the 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2023 classification. During the awards ceremony presented by Aya Shigefuji at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Tokyo, Japan, 50 Top Pizza, the most influential guide in its sector in the world, revealed the ranking for the 50 best pizzerias in the Asia-Pacific area for 2023.
In second place is Bottega, in Beijing, and completing the podium is Pizzeria Peppe – Napoli sta’ ca”, in Tokyo. The latter also has taken home the Source of Inspiration 2023 – Stefano Ferrara Forni Award, conferred upon Giuseppe Errichiello, the owner of the pizzeria.
In fourth place is 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar, in Melbourne, which has also captured the Made in Italy 2023 – Monte Bussan Award; in fifth, Fiata by Salvatore Fiata, in Hong Kong, the pizzeria owned by Salvatore Fiata, who has also captured the coveted Pizza Maker of the Year 2023 – Ferrarelle Award; in sixth place is Via Toledo Enopizzeria, in Dubai, which has also won the New Entry of the Year 2023 – Solania Award; in seventh position is Dante’s Pizzeria Napoletana, in Auckland, which has also won the Best Fried Food – Il Fritturista 2023 – Oleificio Zucchi Award; in eighth position is Pizza Massilia, in Bangkok, which has also received the Best Service 2023 – Goeldlin Award; in ninth place is Pizzeria Mazzie, in Bangkok; and closing the top ten is Crosta Pizzeria, in Makati, which has also captured the Pizza of the Year 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award.
The Best Beer and Drink Service 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award has been conferred upon the Al Taglio pizzeria in Sydney; Pizza Strada, in Tokyo, has received the Performance of the Year 2023 – Robo Award; Il Caffè, in Dubai, has won the Best Pasta Proposal 2023 – Pastificio Di Martino Award; the Best Wine List 2023 – Asti DOCG Award has been given to L’OLIVA Bangkok, in Bangkok; and finally, Da Susy, in Gurugram, has captured the One to Watch 2023 – Fedegroup Award.
There are 15 different countries that constitute the Asia-Pacific area. The most represented country this year is Japan, with 14 venues in our ranking. It is followed by Australia with 10 and Thailand with 5. India, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Israel all made the list for the first time this year. Tokyo is the undisputed capital of quality pizza in this area with no less than 10 pizzerias in our guide.
It was our honor to have His Excellency Gianluigi Benedetti, the Italian Ambassador to Japan, open the awards ceremony. Ambassador Gianluigi Benedetti expresses his satisfaction with the event: “50 Top Pizza is not only a ranking chart or an online guide: it is, above all, the recognition of the profound commitment to the dissemination of the true art of pizza-making all over the globe. This art, that is made up of manual skills, precise leavening and baking times, and the use of simple but superior quality raw materials – flour, EVO oil, yeast, salt, tomato and mozzarella – is proving to be able to express itself, authentically, even tens of thousands of kilometers far from our country. This heritage – which is an expression of our “Made in Italy” – must be protected, enhanced and promoted, and I am pleased to say that the awarding of this prize, 50 Top Pizza, contributes to this objective”.
“The pizza sector in the Asia-Pacific area is undergoing a maturation process,” underscore the curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere, “and it is for this reason that we strove to organize the presentation in Tokyo. It is one of the greatest pizza capitals in the world. We are happy to have presented such a varied and well-balanced final classification. The pizza is good, actually it is excellent in the Asia-Pacific area, and this is an amazing fact that we are happy to reconfirm year after year.”
The top 15 pizzerias in the 2023 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific ranking enter by right into the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World, which will meet again at the Palazzo Reale in Naples on September 13th.
The next 50 Top Pizza event will be on June 27th in New York when we will reveal the best pizzerias in the United States of America for 2023.
