50 Top Pizza 2023: I Masanielli by Francesco Martucci and 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria tied as Best Pizzerias in Italy.
Second place has gone to I Tigli by Simone Padoan, third to Seu Pizza Illuminati by Pier Daniele Seu.
The Special Award Pizza Maker of the Year has been captured by Sasà Martucci from I Masanielli by Sasà Martucci in Caserta. The Pizza of the Year is La Parmigiana Viaggiatrice at 180g Pizzeria Romana, in Rome. Gabriele Bonci has received the City of Rome Prize.
I Masanielli by Francesco Martucci, in Caserta, and 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria, in Naples, tied as Best Pizzerias in Italy for 2023. This is the official result according to the most influential guide in the worldwide pizza sector, 50 Top Pizza. The news was announced yesterday at the Teatro Argentina in Rome during the heavily followed captivating awards ceremony broadcast live across the guide’s social media platforms and presented by Federico Quaranta.
In second place is I Tigli by Simone Padoan in San Bonifacio; and closing out the podium is Seu Pizza Illuminati by Pier Daniele Seu in Rome.
In fourth place 50 Kalò in Naples by Ciro Salvo; in fifth position is 180g Pizzeria Romana by Jacopo Mercuro in Rome who also captured the special award Pizza of the Year 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award with their La Parmigiana Viaggiatrice; in sixth position is I Masanielli – Sasà Martucci in Caserta, which has also received the coveted Pizza Maker of the Year 2023 – Ferrarelle Award; in seventh position is Francesco & Salvatore Salvo in Naples who has also received the Best Beer Service 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award; in eighth place is Dry Milano in Milan with Lorenzo Sirabella at its helm; in ninth position Cambia-Menti di Ciccio Vitiello in Caserta; and in tenth place La Notizia 94 in Naples by Enzo Coccia.
Other special awards have been conferred: 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples has taken home the Best Service 2023 – Goeldlin Award; Confine in Milan has received the New Entry of the Year 2023 – Solania Award; La Cascina dei Sapori in Rezzato (BS) has captured the Best Fried Pasta Pie 2023 – Pastificio Di Martino Award; BOB Alchimia a Spicchi in Montepaone Lido (CZ) has been recognized with the Performance of the Year 2023 – Robo Award; Allegrìo in Rome has taken home the One to Watch 2023 – Fedegroup Award; Sbanco in Rome has received the Best Fried Food – Il Fritturista 2023 – Oleificio Zucchi Award; and finally Meunier Champagne & Pizza in Corciano (PG) has captured the Best Wine List 2023 – Asti DOCG Award.
Alessandro Onorato, Commissioner of Events, Sports, Tourism and Fashion, came to welcome the guests at the event, who had traveled from all over the country to be reunited for the first time in the nation’s capital for the 50 Top Pizza awards ceremony. Mr. Onorato conferred the Premio Città di Roma (City of Rome Prize) upon Gabriele Bonci.
Eight Green Oven Awards, a recognition given to pizzerias with rigorous environmental sustainability standards and practices, have gone to: I Masanielli di Sasà Martucci in Caserta; Le Grotticelle in Caggiano; Pupillo Pura Pizza in Frosinone; Denis in Milan; Pizzeria Le Parùle in Ercolano; Pizzeria Gigi Pipa in Este; Pizzarium in Rome, and Grotto Pizzeria Castello in Caggiano.
Three Benemerito della Pizza (Notable Pizza Merit) awards for 2023 have gone to: Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, Davide Civitiello and Giancarlo Casa.
Campania is the most represented region in the countdown with 28 pizzerias. It is followed by Lazio with 13 and Tuscany with 11.
The 2023 Italian guide contains over 500 pizzerias. The first 100 in the ranking and others are classified as “Excellent Pizzerias.” The top 40 positions will enter by right into the list of the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World which will be announced at a ceremony in Naples at the Palazzo Reale on September 13th.
“It has been an exciting and very intense year for us,” declare the curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere “first in Barcelona for the European guide, then Tokyo for the Asia-Pacific guide, then New York for the USA guide: it has been a journey full of emotion for the great worldwide pizza community. Now we are in Rome for the first time for the Italian final. This has come about thanks to the wishes of the Roman Capital and Alessandro Onorato, Commissioner for Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion. Mr. Onorato was convinced of the boost to tourism that pizza and the eno-gastronomic sector in general could bring to the capital city. It has been a non-stop year, which is far from over, as now we prepare for the grand finale at the Palazzo Reale in Naples on September 13th when we will reveal the top 100 pizzerias in the world.”
The “Party After Prize,” held at the Teatro India, welcomed almost 500 guests from around the Italian peninsula. Not only did the event celebrate this prestigious ranking, but it also provided an opportunity for the Italian pizza community to exchange ideas and impressions.
